Take it from a [formerly] hard fiscally liberal/social conservative Democrat ... South Carolina's Senator Jim DeMint, along with Newt Gingrich, have helped me see the errors of my former thinking like few other men could.

Newt Gingrich isn't in power, but Jim DeMint is and let's be extremely grateful for his presence and perserverance. To be honest, outside of abortion and other social issues, I was hardly in the South Carolinian's corner.

Little by little, we're watching our freedoms being eroded on the altar of "doing good." Or at least talking smoothly about "doing good" and bringing forth "change" and "hope."

They haven't brought about "good" by willing to include abortion in their mandatory health care scheme (the so-called "public option") and what "hope" for real lasting "change" have they introduced by simply casting aside the opposition's favored lobbyists for theirs and having the nerve to insult us by calling it "change"? The system remains as intact as it always has. THe play goes on but the actors are different.

So, too, have some of the lines. These lines are deceptively detrimental to a nation seeking to maintain its status as the greatest freedom nation on earth. One example speaks volumes: How can Obama's crowd speak about building a manageable public system that'll pay for itself if it turns a blind eye towards illegals, and ultra-liberal lobbyist groups willing to cover for them?

Enough's enough: I'm tired of Joe Biden's spam containing horror stories upon horror stories about the present system. I'm tired of reading paeans to public health services as if they were always and forever superior in both motives and performance to the private or semi/private (church and non-profit operated health systems.)

I'd like to see them try and run that line by some of the loved ones whose returning war heroes died from suicide thanks to what they claiming against the Veterans Admin. about the lack of adequate psychological follow-up care.

If a government can't handle the relatively few cases of PTSD now compared to heart, lung, cancer, skeletal-related cases it'll inherit should we nationalize health care ... how on earth can we have any reasonable confidence we'll get our money's worth without sacrificing our freedoms and yes, unfortunately, lives should rationing be enforced?

Maybe we won't find out "on earth" after we've given up our most basic freedom: to exist w/o fear of a bean-counter's scalpel. Accountants and bureaucrats don't administer pain-killing medicines in advance of performing their specialities.

Senator DeMint ... Thank you from a very anxious Democrat living in Massachusetts.
